Is your address “rural” enough to claim psychology sessions done online on Medicare?

Do you know whether your address falls within the boundaries eligible to claim Medicare rebates for psychology sessions done online via video conferencing?

The rebates have been available to people living across much of rural Australia for over a year now but many are still unaware this great options is available to them.

It doesn’t help that the Government map which shows who is eligible is… a little confusing.

We have simplified it as much possible, so you can check your address. Click on the link below and follow these instructions.

  • under classifications check Modified Monash Model

  • Change the year to 2019

  • put in your address and check your classification.

  • Classifications four through to seven are eligible

If your address is within the eligible area you claim up to 10 psychology sessions a year done via video conferencing through the Government’s Better Access initaitive.

You must have a referral and Mental Health Care Plan from your GP and be at least 15km from your psychologist.

The boundaries were determined according to population data matched to the medical workforce.

In case you still can’t work out the map, basically everyone outside a major city or regional centre is deemed rural enough to be eligible.

There are exceptions so it is definitely wise to check, particularly if you live near the edge of town.

We know how confusing all of this is, so if you would like more information please email us at info@ruralhealthconnect.com.au and we would be happy to help out.

Rural Health Connect has a telehealth trial with some amazing psychologists starting soon.
